Drawn seven, Samantha Spratt gave Scapolo ample time to find his feet and they settled worse than midfield and found themselves second last, with cover, before starting the bend. At the 500m he grabbed the bit and moved forward, although wide, but travelling well, ranged up and around the field and once into the straight (widest) settled down for a strong run in, gathering up the leaders passing the 150m only to run clear and win easily.

Underthemoonlight was last, locked up on the rails, passing the 500m, hugged the fence around the last corner and ran on well without endangering the winner, running into second at the 100m and holding on to the line.

North And South was third last at the 500m, accelerated next to the fence on the corner and briefly shared the lead but was out-finished yet stayed on pretty well, for third.

Sweynesse Stakes (G3)

Type: OPEN

The G3 at WFA over 1215m saw cream rise to the top with the class act in the field Scapolo schooling his rivals over the final 150m. Scapolo sat back in the rear duo then scouted widest near the home turn before being let rip fully and swam home down the outer to score by four and a half lengths in 1:18.52. It was the only race at this trip today to break 1:19 and did so comfortably. The victory today was the sixteenth in forty-two starts for the 7yo gelding that has won on all types of footing and from 1000m to 2000m. Underthemoonlight after winning last week at G3 against her own sex at WFA by six lengths ran on strongly for second and is racing so well at the moment. North And South ran on well too for third and like the runner up cut the corner near the home turn. Nomisma was a sound fourth and kept coming down the outer after being back and wide in her first try at blacktype and WFA. Salamanca used up too much energy wide disputing the lead and was run over easily the final 200m. No More Tears was just fair while Statham showed he is a handicapper only and Biggin Hill proved he is a clockwise performer. Persuasive was dreadful and blacktype may be beyond her unless they can find a really weak field somewhere. Ferrando the inexperienced 3yo melted when the blowtorch was applied from the 800m to the home turn but will keep and back to his proper grade can win more than once this season. Los Vargas was totally outclassed under WFA. This was not a strong field at all and Scapolo second-rated them on the wet footing in what was basically handicappers behind him. Some runners will form reverse next time out on better conditions but it will come in their rightful grade or sex or under handicap conditions.
