Qewy drew the inside and leisurely took up the running early. He and rider Kerrin McEvoy were under no pressure with a round to go. Nor was there any pressure around the far turn or down the back, the pace being very moderate. Around the last corner, McEvoy let out the reins and they cruised comfortably into the straight by a length then at the 400m he applied the pressure, increasing the lead. Inside the 150m all that was left was to hold on, and hold on they did, gamely but narrowly to the post.

Swacadelic sat fifth (rails) at the 1000m, moved out into the middle of the track turning in and ran on very well, like a true stayer, almost catching the winner.

All I Survey sat fourth, one out, at the 1000m, peeled three wide into the straight, tried to get on terms with the winner and battled away to hold third.
