2016 Carbine Club Of W.A. Stakes Listed November 19 - Ascot

3 minute read

Chocolate Holic wins 2016 Carbine Club Of W.A. Stakes Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 4yo+, 1400m.

The highly consistent four-year-old Chocolate Holic took his record to seven wins from ten starts in taking out his second stakes victory here. He settled in seventh place, on the rails, following a steady tempo (first 800m 50.63). He improved nearing the home turn as the pace picked up, got a split at the 300m, hit the front on passing the 100m and battled strongly for a good win. It was also a very good ride by Damien Oliver.

Bass Strait had a good trip from his inside barrier (1) racing in third place on the rails. He got through on the inner at the 200m, held a narrow lead shortly afterwards and fought well for a good second.

Great Shot went to the front, steadied the mid-race tempo, and held the lead until the 200m before battling on well for a close up third. Coming Back settled near last in the 11-horse field and caught the eye running on late for (one length) fourth.
