Under Mark Zahra and from barrier three, Boom Time took up a lovely spot, one out and one back of the pace. At the 1000m there was no change while at the 600m Boom Time was pushed forward to camp in behind the first two, ready to pounce. Around the last corner he moved up three wide but took some time to balance past the 300m then went after the leader, eventually collaring him inside the 50m and edged away to score by a half length.

Goldstream saved ground against the fence in third all the way to the home straight. He did not accelerate once straightened then ran on late next to the fence without looking like passing the winner.

Pilot D'Essai had a comfortable run in front to the home straight, kicked at the 300m and had a nice break until near the 100m. He then held on as best he could to the line for third.
