Gold Symphony wins 2017 Civic Stakes Listed $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW), 1350m.

Following a close up last start sixth in the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m), Gold Symphony found this a much easier task and he won well. He began with them (barrier 10) but soon dropped back to fourth last, one off the fence at the 600m. Hugh Bowman never panicked despite being five wide and third last turning in. At the 300m he went wider still, challenged for the lead at the 200m then claimed the lead at the 50m to edge out by a half length at the post.

The Monstar was brave in defeat, leading or co-leading all the way to the 50m before going under for a well fought second from an unlucky Slightly Sweet, who had nowhere to go at the 400m and switched back towards the fence for a late run into third.

Invincible Knight was last into the straight, tracked the winner out wide and ran on for (2.3 lengths) fourth.
