Swacadelic wins 2017 R.M. Ansett Classic Listed $120,000 at Mornington (VIC), 2430m.
A field of six faced the starter and German import Swacadelic returned to form to score win six from 40 starts. He was last out, and equal last passing the judge with a circuit to run. At the 1200m apprentice rider Ben Allen was content to hold the rail, still equal last, then last by himself but only four lengths from the leader past the 800m.
Allen kept to the fence approaching the last corner, found a gap three out at the 100m and under a hard ride swept up and got the nod on the line.
Kingway lay second for most of the journey, ranged up to co-lead rounding the last corner and looked the winner only to be run down in the last strides from Settler's Stone, who led to the short straight, was headed but held third quite well.
