Cliff's Edge had them in trouble a long way from home to win well, his fourth win in eight starts. Under John Allen, he began well (barrier eight) and three wide eased his way to the lead by more than a length passing the 1500m.

Going comfortably down the side Allen held him together then let out the reins a little at the 600m. Into the straight they added more pressure and broke away and had them all in trouble past the 150m and never gave the chasers a chance, scoring easily by two and three quarter lengths.

Tangled lay third (rails) most of the way, pulled out to challenge into the straight yet never looked like overhauling the winner, holding a clear second at the wire from Main Stage, who moved closer from midfield turning in then battled away to barely hold on, a well back third in line with Aberro and Eshtiraak at the post.
