Fanatic wins 2017 Sandown Cup Listed $150,000 at Sandown-Hillside (VIC), 3200m.
Former New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Fanatic, made it back-to-back distance wins, outstaying a small field to score her fifth win. She was fifth with a circuit to run but 25 lengths from the tearaway leader Darabad, who gradually came back to the field and was caught just before they straightened where Fanatic was last.
Jockey Michael Walker waited until the 400m before scrubbing her up and she dived between runners at the 300m, co-led inside the 200m and took over short of the line to hold them by a half-length.
Swacadelic was second last turning in, ranged up and ran on for second from Gallic Chieftain, who was second turning in but could only battle away for third another length and a quarter further back.
