Trainer Darren Smith completed a Newcastle Cup day double when his promising gelding Midnight At Ascot toughed out a game win in the NBN Television Spring Country Cup at Newcastle today.
Midnight At Ascot was forced to race three wide from the start but gave plenty in the last 200m to hold on for a nose win over Youthful Jack to give Smith a stable double after the earlier maiden win by Oakfield Gem.
Midnight At Ascot had also won first-up after a hard run at the Wyong Cup carnival and continues a great run of success Smith is enjoying with horses raced by Dynamic Syndications.
Smith talks about today's winners and his plans in Melbourne for stable star Atomic Force, this week named Newcastle Horse of the Year.
