Talented apprentice jockey Shaun Guymer has continued his rise in the Sydney jockey ranks and will now be indentured to leading Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride.

Guymer just finished a three month stint with the Kevin Moses stable before deciding on a move from the hustle and bustle of Royal Randwick out to the west.
“It was all a bit of a surprise really and it happened pretty quick,” said Guymer.
“The licensing people called because my time was up with Mr Moses and I was talking to Mr Pride after I rode So So Sure on the weekend and he offered me a spot in his stable,” he added.
“I am looking forward to it and the quieter lifestyle out at Warwick Farm is definitely an advantage.”
“There are also no other apprentices out there so it's a good opportunity for me to ride for some good trainers and the Pride stable is certainly going well at the moment and has some very handy horses.”
Guymer has come along way in a very short time and is now riding regular winners in Sydney for some of the leading trainers which includes Peter Snowden and Chris Waller.
The young hoop kicked off his apprenticeship with Danny Williams at Goulburn before a move to the Mark Schmetzer stable at Canberra proved to be the catalyst that got his career going.
“I have to give a lot of credit to Mark Schmetzer and his family, when I went from Goulburn to Canberra he really helped me a lot and I became a much better rider when I was with him,” he explained.
Guymer is currently fourth in the Sydney Apprentices Premiership on 10 metropolitan winners and the competition in the young riding ranks is very high at present which includes Chad Schofield, Sam Clipperton and Josh Adams.
“I would really like to chase down Chad Schofield in the premiership but if that doesn't happen it will be good to get second and also to keep establishing myself up here in Sydney,” Guymer said.
“There are definitely a lot of good apprentices at the moment and we all bounce off each other and keep each other focused and it's very good having competition.”
Guymer currently has 2 years left on his apprentice and to date has ridden 94 career winners 28 of them this season alone.
