Slipper Dream Alive For Queensland Filly

3 minute read

Fairytale youngster Doubtfilly will attempt to turn the Golden Slipper dream into a reality for her North Queensland connections at Rosehill on Saturday.

Mackay-trained Doubtfilly will be chasing a Golden Slipper berth in Saturday's $175,000 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill after winning four of her first six starts in Queensland.

Doubtfilly, a bargain $17,500 yearling purchase, has earned over $315,000 prizemoney for her syndicate of owners but she is still outside the top 40 on the order of the entry for the $3.5 million AAMI Golden Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday week because the majority of her earnings have come from races restricted to QTIS sale products.

At her latest start the daughter of Not A Single Doubt cruised home by more than five lengths on a heavy track in the $250,000 QTIS 600 2YO Plate at the Gold Coast beating the talented Snipzu – a three-time Brisbane winner and second in the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick.

The Gold Coast win came after victories at Eagle Farm and Doomben and gives Doubtfilly claims to being the best Queensland-trained 2YO of the season to date.

She will be the first Sydney starter for her experienced Mackay trainer Stuart Kendrick, who has won more than 300 races in Queensland including 10 in Brisbane.

Kendrick, secured Doubtfilly for $17,500 at last year's Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast and races the filly in partnership with a big syndicate from his home town of Mackay.

He arrived in Sydney late last week with Doubtfilly and has her stabled at Rosehill.

"She has settled in and has worked well," said part-owner Paul McGowan, a keen racing man who is the patron of the Mackay Turf Club.

"All options for her, including the Golden Slipper, will be reviewed after Saturday."
