It only took the Gai Waterhouse stable two races to claim their first win of the day when Fat Al scored an easy win in the Frank Packer Plate at Randwick today.

Jockey Nash Rawiller was able to roll along in front on the three-year-old gelding with little pressure being applied throughout, and in the straight he was able to break clear of the pack with Ambidexter the only one that went with him.

Fat Al got the best of Ambidexter over the concluding stages to win by just over a length with Rekindled Alliance running on for third.

Fat Al has now won five from seven career starts including his last four and will be aimed at the upcoming Brisbane winter carnival.

“He has had a wonderful progression,” said Waterhouse.

“The way he stepped up in distance and class was very good and when the chips were down I love the way he sprinted and he still had plenty in the tank,” she added.

“We took the blinkers off and got rid of those and he was ready to rock and roll.”

Jockey Nash Rawiller who has kept his outstanding carnival going was able to get away with plenty in front and said the horse will be even better come Brisbane.

“The horses haven't let us down at any stage of through the carnival and hopefully it continues on through the rest of the day,” Rawiller said.

“He is a pretty exciting horse I think. He does what he has to do and gets the job done.

“He is a very strong sort of horse and he feels like he has got more improvement to come.”
