The well-bred three-year-old filly Emotional Circus added another valuable metropolitan win to her page on Saturday when securing a last stride win in the Camden Hire Handicap at Rosehill.

Emotional Circus, trained by Jason Coyle at Randwick, is by Elusive Quality out of the Danehill mare Cirque du Soleil, the full sister to Piccadilly Circus, who is the dam of leading sire Fastnet Rock.

Owned by Evergreen Stud, managed by Tony Bott, the filly has immense value without even racing, but she now has two metropolitan wins after six races and Bott is naturally keen to secure black type to add significantly to her prestige in a future broodmare paddock.

Saturday's win was secured with a ride judged to the final stride by Christian Reith as he allowed Emotional Circus to settle at the rear of the field which was towed along by $2.70 favourite Didntcostalot at some pace.

Didntcostalot was 2L ahead at the 600m, 3L ahead at the 500m and 4L heading past the 400m. Emotional Circus (54kg) and Reith were some 10L behind as the entered the main straight and looked unlikely to challenge.

However, the early pace started to tell with Didntcostalot starting to host the white flag. The margin was back to 2L at the 300m and then a wall of horses started to gather him in.

Aeronautical and Glyn Schofield made a determine attack on the inside at the 100m and looked very likely winners, but Reith had been making progress from the rear.

Back at the 200m Emotional Circus was still 4L from the leader, but closing well. Over the final 50m the filly was in full cry and right on the line Aeronautical had his head up and the filly was going forward, and she had the win by a head.

Aeronautical was 3/4L ahead of Skip Town and Jay Ford. The favourite finished sixth.

“We have always has a bit of an opinion of her and Jason has done a great job with her. She was due to run a week or so ago but she has bit of a setback with a white cell count and he pulled her out and she has done the job well with the firmer ground I think,” said Bott.

“She was a little bit immature early and now she has grown into a big strong filly. Her mum is a very big mare. She is a valuable broodmare now and if we can get some black type with her it will be a bonus.

“Jason has done well. We like to support everyone and spread them around and from limited opportunities I think he has done a great job. We have certainly been very happy with him with this filly,” he said.

Bott said that depending on how the filly pulls up after Saturday's race they would proceed either to Scone next week or Queensland in search of the black type status.

“She just saw it out. I was unlucky that I was held up a bit early so we just saw it out and that is all that matters,” said Reith.

“She has come back in fantastic order this preparation. Her trials were good and she proved it at Warwick Farm that she was explosive. But the other day on a tight track and a wet track did not suit her and coming her today the dry track, and bigger track, she was very hard to beat,” he said.
