Caulfield Cup bound Zurella has showed a strong turn of foot at Flemington today in taking out the $220,000 Group 2 Let's Elope Stakes.
First up since a narrow second behind stablemate Miss Artistic in the Group 1 NZ Oaks (2400m), Zurella was able to turn the tables in Saturday's Group 2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m).
The four-year-old got back in a slowly run race and despite not having the tempo to suit still produced a strong finishing burst in taking out the $220,000 event.
“She is a beautiful boned filly,” trainer Shaune Ritchie said.
“She was always going to develop into a lovely four-year-old and it is good to see her right on track.”
Ritchie is hopeful the Zabeel mare can gain a start in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 20 and also holds a nomination for the Melbourne Cup.
“Races are only going to get stronger from here on in as we well know,” Ritchie said.
“We are trying to get her into the Caulfield Cup. If she comes through this she will go onto the Naturalism Stakes.”
