David Vandyke saddled up five runners during yesterday's Warwick Farm trials with Choice Words and Breakfast In Bed the two eye catchers.
The astute trainer who is coming off a strong spring is preparing his summer team with Choice Words nearing a first up run after winning her trial at Warwick Farm yesterday.
“It was a beautiful trial,” Vandyke said.
“She sat behind the leader, looked the winner from the time they straightened and went to the line under a good hold.”
Choice Words has won both her trial hit-outs this prep and at this stage will resume at Rosehill on November 24.
“She will go around Saturday week at Rosehill in an 1100m Benchmark 85,” Vandyke said.
“She will come in nicely at the weights and claim with Blake [Spriggs].
“I like to put him on he is very professional.”
The Choisir mare was stakes placed as a three-year-old last season when runner up in the Reginald Allen Quality (1200m) behind the Peter Snowden-trained Disputes.
Vandyke will aim to bolster her black type record over the Summer.
“We'll have a look at the Razor Sharp in December which should be a nice little race for her.”
Ten 800m trial heats were conducted at Warwick Farm yesterday with the fastest of the morning recorded by a recent addition to the Vandyke stable – Breakfast In Best.
The Hussonet filly won her trial by six lengths, stopping the clock in 46.3secs.
Formerly trained in Victoria by Mike Moroney, Breakfast In Bed arrived at Vandyke's Warwick Farm stable after an underwhelming maiden campaign.
After the strength of her trial win, Vandyke is confident she can turn things around this preparation.
“She has only come to me recently,” Vandyke said.
“She is a filly that we haven't done a lot with but she has impressed us on the training track.
“She has been going well but I didn't expect her to trial like she did today. It was the fastest trial of the day and she did it under a hold.
“I said to Peter Robl not to let her go as she hadn't done a lot of work and it was a lovely surprise.
“We'll go around at Hawkesbury in two weeks from Sunday in a fillies and mares maiden over 1100m. It looks a lovely race for her, she should be able to race up on the pace.
“If she replicates her trial form from today into her first up run she should be winning.”
The addition of Breakfast In Bed is a glowing endorsement for David Vandyke with the filly owned by respected racing operation Segenhoe Stud.
“They are lovely owners Segenhoe,” Vandyke said.
“When we got the horse I was hoping we could do something with her. I felt like we'd won a race yesterday because she has progressed so well and showed us we should be able to get her over the line first at the races shortly.”
Breakfast In Bed is by Hussonet out of Sunday Silence mare Bella Sunday.
Bella Sunday was a city winner herself however more notably is a half sister to sire Not A Single Doubt.
Others to trial for Vandyke on Tuesday included additional new acquisitions Fallen One and Divine Influence plus Magic In The Mix who is raced by the Mayer's who also own stable star Lamasery.
