Niblick Holds On In Sprint

3 minute read

Niblick made a superb return to the eastern seaboard with a gutsy win in the Listed National Sprint at Canberra on Sunday.

It was the six-year-old's first win since being sold by Lloyd Williams 12 months ago, and franked a sound spring campaign under the tutelage of Trevor Andrews in Perth.

That foray west netted a second placing in the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) back in November.

He's now trained out of Albury by Brett Cavanough. Sunday's win was the seventh of his career, and arguably his toughest performance after setting the tempo and fighting off a wall of horses late on.

Niblick and Fill The Page set the pace early and Cavanough's speedster was good enough to hold out the fast-finishing Upshot and Glad You Called, who fleshed out the minor placings.
