Moreira Bites Early Ahead Of Sprint

3 minute read

Joao Moreira has tuned up for tonight's Krisflyer International Sprint in style, kicking home the first winner of a bumper 11-race program at Singapore.

The superstar Brazilian hoop steered Patrick Shaw's Spyder to a narrow triumph over stablemate Marcusino, just hours before he'll carry the weight of a nation in the $1m Group 1 Sprint (1200m).

Moreira will ride Singapore flyer Super Easy, hoping to repel a powerful international contingent to keep the country's richest sprint race in local hands for a third consecutive year.

Rocket Man won the race in 2011, 12 months before Ato's memorable triumph last year.

“After winning the first race of the card I'll be going out there a little bit more confident,” Moreira said.

“He [Super Easy] is doing well he has probably improved on his last run and hopefully everything goes okay and he'll be hard to beat.

“I spoke to him [trainer Michael Freedman] during the week and we have something in mind. I'll just have to wait until the race comes up and here what Michael Freedman is going to tell me on how to ride him.”

Just 50 minutes after the Krisflyer, Moreira will jump aboard relatively unfancied local Ready To Strike in the Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m).

“I'm really confident that my horse is going to run a good race - if he runs a good fourth or third I'll be very happy,” Moreira said.

“He's a lovely horse, he's been very honest and he's been going around in the feature races against the local horses and doing very well.

“We must respect the international horses that are coming. They're going to be very hard to beat. “
