Mark Kavanagh has ruled out chasing major riches with December Draw this spring, opting instead to target some of the middle-distance features.
The 2011 Turnbull Stakes winner was a glaring omission from Caulfield Cup nominations released yesterday, a race he has contested unsuccessfully for the past two years.
“He's in work now, but he'll be kept to the shorter races,” Kavanagh told Racing Victoria.
“He's a bit older now and probably can't cope with the work that we have to give him to make him into a Cups horse.”
A one-time Caulfield Cup favourite, December Draw has suffered from leg injuries since his Turnbull Stakes win.
