Chris Waller's spring aspirations have suffered a setback with Beaten Up and Kelinni each scratched from Randwick's Group 2 Hill Stakes on Saturday.
Beaten Up was a clear cut favourite for the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday with stablemate Kelinni also down to contest the event.
The Chris Waller stable notified Racing NSW Stewards on Thursday morning both would be withdrawn from the event.
Beaten Up is displaying signs of a tendon strain at present with the UK import now in doubt for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 19.
Waller will keep the Beat Hollow gelding in light work for the next 10 days, largely swimming prior to another scan.
The early detection gives Beaten Up a fighting chance of contesting the Caulfield Cup on October 19 where stablemates Hawkspur and Royal Descent sit atop of early betting.
Fourth in the 2012 Melbourne Cup, Kelinni was heading towards the 2013 renewal via the Caulfield Cup.
He has been withdrawn from the Hill Stakes (2000m) due to a minor bout of colic.
Connections instead intend on running the Refuse To Bend gelding in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick on October 5 and would contest the Caulfield Cup fourth up.
Chris Waller's remaining Hill Stakes runners are Moriarty and Bayrir.
Moriarty now holds favouritism for the event with Bayrir a $4.00 second elect.
