Newitt Confident Ahead Of Guineas

3 minute read

Craig Newitt has declared his Caulfield Guineas mount El Roca is potentially the best three-year-old he's ever ridden.

The classy Melbourne hoop, whose best result in the race came three years ago when second aboard Run For Levi behind Anacheeva, made the bold statement when speaking to SEN radio this morning.

Newitt rode Light Fantastic to an Australian Guineas win in 2008, and was aboard Heart Of Dreams 12 months later winning the same race.

“I rode him in a bit of work before he ran the other day at Caulfield and he gave me a really good feel,” Newitt said.

“He's potentially probably the best three-year old that I've ridden.”

El Roca is currently a $7.50 chance in the race following his second placing to Eclair Big Bang in the Prelude at Caulfield two weeks ago.

“There's a number of chances in the race but I know my bloke, he'll fly the barriers, he'll put himself in the first couple in running, it'll take a pretty good one to beat him,” Newitt said.
