Precedence has copped a 1kg Melbourne Cup penalty meaning Bart Cummings still hasn't been guaranteed an 88th runner in the race.
The eight-year-old is now 29th in the order of entry after his Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) triumph on the weekend and must win either the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) or the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) on Saturday to earn a ballot exemption.
Precedence could still make the Cup field without a win on Saturday, given It's A Dundeel, Manighar, Puissance De Lune, Sangster, Waldpark and Royal Descent, all above him in the ballot, have been withdrawn.
Should he run it'll be his fourth-straight appearance in the race, giving the legendary Cummings a crack at winning his 13th Melbourne Cup.
