Colt becomes stallion’s ninth first-crop winner.
First-season sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) strengthened his grip on the leading first season sire championship after his son Achiever (2 c ex Lady Circles by Ascot Knight) led home a quinella for the Coolmore Stud-based stallion in the Castelvecchio at Arrowfield 2YO Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Having the fifth start of his career, the Chris Waller-trained Achiever never looked in any trouble and was able to pull away to beat Street Dancer by three and a quarter lengths with another half a length back to Pyrmont (Ad Valorem) in third.
Given the dominance of the victory, Waller said he is now eyeing a tilt in the Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) next season.
"He will be the type we can aim at a race like the Spring Champion Stakes in the spring," Waller said.
"He was on our JJ Atkins team until he ran third last start and just missed the cut.
"He has always shown us ability which is why we still have him up and going."
An $80,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale purchase for Star Thoroughbreds and Randwick Bloodstock from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft, Achiever was bred by the Vieira Group and he is out of Lady Circles (Ascot Knight) making him a half-brother to Group 3 winner Decircles (Encosta De Lago).
Lady Circles herself is out of Group 1 winner Circles Of Gold (Marscay), who in turn produced multiple Group 1-winning champions and sires Elvstroem (Danehill) and Haradasun (Fusaichi Pegasus).
Circles Of Gold also produced Group 2-placed Danehill (Danzig) mare Hveger - the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Highland Reel (Galileo), who shuttles to Swettenham Stud in Victoria, while she also produced this season's Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Cape Of Good Hope (Galileo) and Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Idaho (Galileo).
The colt's Pierro (Lonhro) half-brother made $80,000 at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and she has most recently been covered by Widden Stud's young stallion Trapeze Artist (Snitzel).
Pride Of Dubai is sitting at the top of the leading first season sires championship (by earnings) and he will stand at Coolmore for a fee of $38,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
