High-priced yearlings converge on Sires’

3 minute read

Two of the five most expensive yearlings sold in Australia last year among Sires’ field.

Tony Fung and Annabel Neasham were a formidable force on last year's yearling sale circuit and two of their big-ticket items headline a Group 2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes littered with bluebloods.

Nobel and Man In The Mirror sit among the five most expensive lots sold in Australia last year.

Only $2.5m colt Magic (Snitzel x Rising Romance), cost more than $2.1m buy Nobel, a son of Exceed And Excel and Peace Force, a Bernardini mare who is a half-sister to Eremein, at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Man In The Mirror, who is by Not A Single Doubt out of Vega One's half-sister One More Honey, was the equal-second most expensive Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling at $1.8m.

Nobel finished third in the Inglis Banner (1000m) on debut and was spelled after a seventh in the Golden Gift (1100m), while Man In The Mirror won over 1000m at Warwick Farm on debut before a fifth placing on Heavy ground in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m).

Man In The Mirror is the shortest-priced of Neasham's three runners – she also has Fastnet Rock filly Bessmati engaged – in the $300,000 event over 1400m and the Warwick Farm trainer expects him to appreciate getting back on top of the ground.

"I was a bit worried he'd be a bit lazy through the wet last start, he's not the strongest of travellers, but he's got a lot of ability and I think we'll see the best of him on a drier track," she said.

Nobel and Man In The Mirror are not the only seven-figure yearlings engaged in the Sires' with Brosnan (Snitzel x Supara) a $1,050,000 buy on the Gold Coast, while Bonheur (I Am Invincible x Bonaria) fell just $25,000 short of the magical figure at the same sale.

Several others would have gone for big money if entered in a with Impending colt Sir Bailey a son of Jameka, while Sumatra is by Lonhro out of Blue Diamond winner Earthquake.
