Zoustar heads 17-strong roster at an increased fee of $198,000
After announcing fees earlier in the month for new additions Portland Sky (Deep Field) and Rebel Dane (California Dane), on Wednesday Widden Stud announced fees for their other stallions in both NSW and Victoria. The roster is headed by Zoustar (Northern Meteor) who will stand Widden's Hunter Valley farm for a fee of $198,000 (inc GST), up from $154,000 a year ago.
Zoustar enjoyed a very successful Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, producing the sale-topping colt who was bought for $3 million by Tom Magnier.
The colt was one of 97 yearlings by Zoustar that sold in 2022, producing an average of over $435,000 including five individual million dollar lots.
Given the success Widden has enjoyed with Zoustar the decision to stand his Group 1 placed and Group 2 winning son Zousain was an easy one and his first crop are now foals.
"Physically, he's a Zoustar clone. An easy Group winning two-year-old and half a length from emulating his sire as a three-year-old when running a close second in the Group 1 Golden Rose and Coolmore," said Antony Thompson.
Zousain covered 188 mares in 2020 and 214 mares last year at a fee of $19,800 (inc GST) and he has been subject to a slight fee increase for 2022, up to $22,000 (inc GST).
Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) and Written By (Written Tycoon) have both seen their first crops well received at the yearling sales this year, with yearlings by Trapeze Artist making up to $850,000 and the progeny of Written Tycoon have sold for up to $410,000.
Trapeze Artist will stand for a slightly reduced fee of $55,000 (inc GST) this year, having covered a book of 133 mares at $66,000 (inc GST) in 2021.
Written By stood for $24,750 (inc GST) last year and will stand for an increased fee of $27,500 (inc GST) this year.
Anders and Doubtland - both sons of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) - covered their first books of mares last year and Anders will stand in NSW for $16,500 (inc GST) while Doubtland will stand in Victoria for that same fee.
The NSW roster is completed by Stratum Star (Stratum) and Supido (Sebring) who will stand for $5,500 (inc GST) and $8,800 (inc GST) respectively.
Nicconi (Bianconi) heads the roster in Victoria with his 2022 fee unchanged at $22,000 (inc GST), down from $27,500 (inc GST) last year while Star Witness (Starcraft) was another stallion to relocate from Widden's Hunter Valley farm to their Victorian base in 2021 and he will stand for $14,300 (inc GST), down from $16,500 (inc GST) a year ago.
Russian Camelot (Camelot) covered his first book of 130 mares last spring and he will stand his second season at stud for $22,000 (inc GST) while Fiorente's (Monsun) 2022 fee has been set at $9,900.
Magnus (Flying Spur) has had his fee set at $16,500 (inc GST), up from $15,400 (inc GST) last year and the Victorian Roster is completed by Thronum (Snitzel) and National Defense (Invincible Spirit) who will both stand for $7,700 (inc GST).
