Russian Revolution leading first season sire, Rebel Dane top 2YO sire
Russian Revolution justified the big raps he carried into his stallion career with his coronation as this year's Leading First Season Sire, but it was Rebel Dane who claimed top honours as the Leading 2YO Sire.
His victory is a measure of the dominance of star filly Fireburn, who completed the Golden Slipper/ATC Sires' double before a second placing in the Champagne Stakes.
She was one of just five starters for the season for the stallion who has taken up residence at Widden Stud and finished with $3,912,25 in progeny earnings for the season – all but $42,000 of which was contributed by Fireburn.
The Gary Portelli-trained star was responsible for the two best performances recorded by a two-year-old last season from a Timeform perspective, rating 118 in both of her Group 1 wins.
Fireburn rated 116 in the Champagne Stakes, when second to She's Extreme, a daughter of Russian Revolution's Newgate Farm barnmate Extreme Choicewho rated 117 in that event.
Golden Slipper runner-up Best Of Bordeaux (Snitzel) was the third highest-rated juvenile at 115 with Epaulette's Blue Diamond winner Daumier (113) and Jacquinot (112), a son of Rubick, rounding out the top five.
The season's other two-year-old Group 1 winner, Sheeza Belter, rated 106 in her J.J. Atkins win, which made the daughter of Gold Standard, who finished second to Russian Revolution in the first season award, one of 26 juveniles to return a mark of at least that figure last season.
Snitzel had the most representatives of that group with five – Best Of Bordeaux (115), Magic (110), Williamsburg (109), Lofty Strike (108), Boyfriend (107), Willinga Beast (106) – while his son Russian Revolution was the only other one with more than two.
Rise Of The Masses rated 109, while Revolutionary Miss and Russian Conquest both returned peak ratings of 108.
