Three more millionaire mares helped the 2023 National Broodmare Sale finish on a high with Magic Millions organisers satisfied with what transpired on the Gold Coast across three days.

The session-topper was Snitzel mare Macroura, who sold to Yulong for $1.5 million a day after her dam Zenaida sold for $1.4m and two days after her three-quarter-sister Sunshine In Paris sold for $3.9m.

Sunshine In Paris was the second highest-priced lots of the same behind Forbidden Love, who sold for $4.1m on Tuesday.

The other seven-figure lots of Day 3 were Nomothaj (Snitzel), who sold in-foal to I Am Invincible to Widden and David Redvers for $1.2m, and Kapralova (War Front) was bought carrying a Frankel foal for $1 million by James Bester.

They were key players in the sale grossing $106,353,000 with horses selling at an average of $217,936. Last year the sale grossed $124,502,500 at an average of $226,368.

Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said the results married up with what he thought might transpire heading into the sale, but hoped increasing the clearance rate from its sale-end figure of 76 percent could further improve results.

"Very much in line with expectations," said when asked to assess the results.

"Ideally we would have liked to have sold a few more at the low-to-mid-end, but I think the top-end made up for that part from a gross total perspective.

"It's our job to continue to increase the clearance rate in the minutes, the hours, the days to come."

Yulong Investments spent up like no buyer has done previously at the National Sale, spending $33,466,000 across 60 mares at an average of $557,767, while Coolmore's Tom Magnier led the averages with his three purchases coming at a cost of $2,033,333 per horse.

Newgate was the leading vendor, selling 57 horses for $26,658,500, which is an average of $467,693 per horse.

The broodmare sale was the second section of Magic Millions' National offering, following last week's weanling sale, with the National Yearling Sale to take place next Tuesday and Wednesday.
