Sunlight is proving adept at producing $1.4 million yearlings with the second foal from the three-time Group 1 winner selling for that amount on Day 2 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

It was the second year in a row that the daughter of Zoustar and Solar Charged has produced a colt to sell for that amount, with her first foal selling for $1.4 million at the Magic Millions January sale on the Gold Coast.

That Justify colt, who is now called Clean Energy, was bought by a group headed up by Gai Waterhouse but the Inglis youngster, who is by Wootton Bassett, was knocked down to Paul Moroney and Catheryne Bruggerman.

"I bought him for a stud, they want to remain undisclosed at this stage, but they're obviously looking at him as a future stallion prospect and if he can get out there and compete like the rest of the family has, he's a great chance," Moroney said.

"If he can become a Group 1-winning racehorse, he's very well bought at $1.4 million."

Moroney's buy is a member of the first Australian crop of Wootton Bassett, a son of Iffraaj who stands at Coolmore Stud, who also now own Sunlight.

Coolmore bought Sunlight at the end of her racing career, which netted a Magic Millions 2YO Classic win and Group 1 wins in the Newmarket Handicap, William Reid Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Moroney said the colt's bloodlines combined with his physical make-up ensured he was going to be one of the most sought-after colts of Day 2.

"He was up there with the best colts here, certainly one of the best-credentialled on pedigree, and the mixture of type and pedigree made him a very valuable horse," he said.

"I could see him being an autumn two-year-old without any doubt, he's got a lot of power behind him.

"The dream is to have them back here running at his time of the year isn't it and he's got all the credentials to suggest that he could be back here doing it in 12 months' time."

The Wootton Bassett colt went through just under an hour after Sunlight's brother sold to Newgate Farm for $850,000.

He was the third Zoustar-Solar Charged yearling in a row to sell for at least that amount following the colt who sold for $3m at Easter 2022 and last year's $2.6m filly at Magic Millions.
