Menari, a Group 2-winning son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), joined the Newgate Farm roster in 2018, where he stood for an introductory fee of $27,500 (inc GST).
Menari was prepared by Snitzel’s trainer Gerald Ryan and showed his talent from day one scoring a brilliant debut win at Randwick in January, which he subsequently followed up with a second place finish in the Canonbury Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m).
He continued to show his class, finishing fourth behind She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain) in the 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), the first colt home that year.
When he returned in the spring, Menari put in a sparkling display to claim a high-class edition of the The Rosebud (Listed, 1100m), beating Siege Of Quebec (Fastnet Rock) by a length.
He cemented his elite status on his next start in the Run to the Rose (Gr 2, 1200m), beating Pariah (Redoute’s Choice) by a length and a half.
On his final start, Menari finished third behind subsequent triple Group 1 winner and stablemate Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), earning him a slot in The Everest (1200m) but was forced to defect after sustaining a tendon injury.
Menari retired the winner of three of his eight career starts, which saw him amass $619,050 in career prize-money.
Following a few struggles in the breeding barn, Menari briefly returned to Ryan’s Rosehill base in 2019, but a re-occurrence of an old injury saw him re-enter stud at Newgate.
Out of Listed winner Isurava (General Nediym), Menari is a brother Group 3-placed filly Sweet Ava.
Isurava is herself a sister to Magic Night Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Ichihara and Silk Stocking Stakes (Listed, 1400m) winner Au Chocolat.
Menari’s second dam, the winning Cut A Dash (Whiskey Road), is a three-quarter sister to Whisked (Whiskey Road), who is the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Tie The Knot (Nassipour), Listed winner Hood (Shamardal) and Dulcify Handicap (Listed, 1800m) winner Dream Ballad (Singspiel).
