In-form mare Eteinte should prove hard to hold out in today's Park St TAB Sydney Handicap (race 5) at Goulburn.
The mare, prepared by Mark Wallace at Warwick Farm, was just edged out in a Benchmark 55 last time and looks a top chance in the same grade today.
Fresh-up, Eteinte raced on the Acton track at Canberra and ran below her best, fading to finish sixth.
Back on the turf at Newcastle next start though she ran an improved race, settling midfield before working home steadily for fourth.
Racing here in a Class 1 over 1200m two starts back, she settled back and turned last but found the line well, coming with a well timed run to score a last stride win.
Last start, in a Benchmark 55 at Scone over 1300m, the mare settled off the speed in fifth place and raced there throughout, before again hitting the line well for a head second.
She tackles the same grade today with a similar weight and has drawn ideally in barrier two, where she will be able to camp off the speed.
She won her only try at the track and distance and should be hard to hold out again.
The Robert Price-trained Oh Lonesome Me has won two of his three runs and should take catching.
The gelding made his debut over 1200m at Canberra, and after sitting second and racing there throughout fought on well, to score a narrow win.
He then raced in a Class 1 at Kembla Grange and after striding to the lead and turning in front, he was gathered in up the long straight and finished fourth.
Last start, here over 1400m in a Class 1, he was able to sit off the speed from a wide gate and although covered ground on the bend, did find the line well to score a neck win.
The gelding went for a spell and returns with a big weight today but does look well placed in the small field at the trip.
From barrier four he should be able to find the front on his form from his earlier runs and with a soft lead should prove hard to pick up despite the 60kg.
That pair look the clear standout hopes in the race but the knockout could be Monte Leo.
The gelding, although a nine-year-old, ran a strong race fresh when covering ground in tougher grade at Nowra to finish fifth.
He has won three of eight second-up, is well placed after the claim and from the inside draw will be camped off the speed and running on at the finish.
