Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 3.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Wagga, Stawell, Mackay, Hobart, Port Macquarie and Esperance.
WAGGA: RACE 2 @ 2:10 PM
HOLY HELL (2) has raced twice to date and been good in both. She just missed on debut at Nowra before tackling a super maiden at Randwick and running admirably for fourth, beaten just two lengths. She rates highly coming back to this. SPURLINE (6) has placed in her past three, finding the line well at Moruya last time for second. She draws a better gate this time around and can go one better. RIVERBEND UNICORN (1) has placed in 5/6 starts to date with a win looking imminent. He just found one better last time at Corowa when beaten as a $1.45 favourite but should prove awfully hard to hold out again and can repay the faith. GOODBYE STRANGER (5) was good last time at Queanbeyan and is in the mix while IT IS TO BE (11) rates an each way chance.
SELECTIONS: Holy Hell to win.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Wagga Computer Card.
STAWELL: RACE 3 @ 3:00 PM
Lots of these seemingly making up the numbers. Sticking with COURTING EMILY (2) who was well in the market on debut over 1500m at Bendigo and was beaten a head. Sure to come on from that and looks the one to beat here. ALWAYS FIORENTE (1) got home late last time and finished midfield at Sale. Blinkers added for this and can do much better. BIG BERTHA (6) hit the line hard to place fresh then finished fourth latest over 1590m at Wangaratta. Ready to peak now and gets chance to find winning form. DANZAGRUNT (5) was good fresh over 1400m and wouldn't have to improve much to feature here.
SELECTIONS: Stay with Courting Emily.
MACKAY: RACE 3 @ 3:12 PM
Former Hong Kong galloper LUCKY STRONG (2) looked handy finishing runner-up over this track and trip at his first local outing and will have derived a stack of benefit from that hit-out. Looks good enough to shed the maiden status against this lot. PLAY IT AS IT LAYS (12) has been thereabouts in recent efforts and is drawn to get a cosy run in transit from gate two. Rates a serious threat. THORMENDOUS MISS (13) resumes here but the form she showed in her first preparation was good enough to feature in a race like this. Can run a race while fresh. LATIN LOVE (8) strips fitter second-up from the spell and should sit on speed and give backers a sight. IRISH ROCKET (7) is at the races for the first time but has shown ability at the trials and any market confidence must be respected.
SELECTIONS: Lucky Strong to break the maiden tag.
HOBART: RACE 3 @ 4:04 PM
ANYWAYS ROXIE (6) has resumed from a spell in great order and has been well-placed to win her first 3 starts in a row this season. She carries 2.5kg less this time and from a good draw, she can continue on her winning ways. PRESS FOR BOOM (4) won her first 4 races on the bounce before having a spell and resuming with a game second-place finish here nearly 3 weeks ago. She had a couple of trials before that run and will be spot-on with her fitness second-up. She is the main threat to the top pick. JAGUAR STONE (1) was not far away from the winner when resuming with a solid run for third on this track and then was tested in Stakes company where she was not disgraced. The blinkers are back on and at this level, she can bounce straight back into the money. MUSCLE UP (2) is next best.
SELECTIONS: Anyways Roxie to win.
PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 8 @ 5:25 PM
WHITSUNDAY SESSION (8) has yet to miss a cheque in 7 starts and made a winning return to the track fresh up at Coffs Harbour just over 4 weeks ago when scoring by a neck. She will naturally improve from that effort and should repeat the dose. SIGSWORTH (1) was sent for a spell after setting the pace and fading in his last run which was on this track in the spring. He resumes at an easier level and despite a tricky draw, he has top 3 claims. WHERE'S THE FIRE (2) has been mixing his form and just came to the end of his last run which was only 6 days after his most recent win. He is suited by having more space between starts this time and is expected to bounce straight back into the money. PROVENCAL (12) was a last start winner at Quirindi and will still be on the up with her fitness. Each way.
SELECTIONS: Whitsunday Session to win.
ESPERANCE: RACE 4 @ 7:00 PM
SNIPER'S SON (2) is a 3YO who has been tested in strong company throughout his career. He was a dominant winner fresh at Kalgoorlie last campaign before tackling the Listed Belgravia Stakes before a spell. This looks a brilliant race for him to resume in and he's sure to bounce back to winning ways. DUBAI'S DAUGHTER (3) dominated over this track and trip 8 days ago when winning as the $1.95 favourite. She draws inside today which is a positive sign and she usually improves with a run under her belt. Can build on the fresh victory. MARYBEE (5) jumped favourite over 1100m here last time out and got the job done when running over the top. She looks to get a similar run this time around and is sure to go close. SECRICITY (6) just missed on resumption over 1100m here and steps out in trip today. Drawn well again and won't be far away. PARADISE STAR (7) is better than she showed last time out and can bounce back.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Sniper's Son.
