Roweiner Returns Home In Search Of Maiden Win

3 minute read

A return to the provincials combined with the step up to the mile shapes as a winning formula for progressive filly Roweiner when she lines up in the sixth race at Scone this afternoon.

Having never been beaten more than one-and-three-quarter lengths in her three starts to date, Roweiner will return to the scene of the crime where she was narrowly defeated on debut after receiving heavy support firming from $2.50 to start the race the $1.50 hot favourite.

Missing the start slightly, Roweiner settled towards the back half of the field before being pushed wide on the turn and despite working home well she was unable to bridge the gap on the eventual winner.

Continuing to show good improvement with each career start, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt appears very well placed today dropping back to this weaker company having finished fourth at her last two starts at Canterbury.

While the form behind Broken Shore is questionable having seen her fail over the weekend at Rosehill, a line can be taken through both the Chris Waller trained Presslist and Catseye Surprise who have both since gone on to be beaten narrowly in tougher company.

Lobbed in on the minimum on 54kg expect the in-form Christian Reith to ride her cold from the wide draw as he attempts to give her the best chance to run out a strong mile.

Although she is not bred to see out the trip, with a race with such limited threats expect Roweiner to still be too classy for her rivals.

The Kris Lee's trained Brannickers shapes up as her biggest threat coming into the race off a strong win at Newcastle last start when working home strongly from the back over 1400m.

Much like Roweiner, Brannickers will also be thrown into unchartered waters when she steps up to the mile for the first time however her latest effort gave all indications that if ridden off the speed she is able to settle in the run and produce a sharp finish.

With not much difference seen between both gallopers on their respective Timeform figures the 1.5kg swing in the weights in favour of Roweiner appears the defining factor.

The ever consistent Power Shot appears the next best coming into this race off a last start fourth at Wellington in similar company.

The drop back to the mile should suit as she has placed at three of her four attempts and is expected to make her presence felt.

The Luke Griffith trained Fad and the Brett Thompson trained Saturlina appear to round out the multiples.

Good luck and happy punting.
