Ebony To Rein Them All In At Taree

3 minute read

Terry Walshe filly Ebony Rein looks set to resume with a bang in the Saxby’s Sarsparilla Class 2 Handicap at Taree this afternoon.

The three-year-old daughter of Dane Shadow is after a third-straight win following two impressive salutes before a break, finishing a length clear at Grafton over this trip 112 days back at her most recent run.

That performance earned a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 76, an improvement of two pounds on her 3.8L maiden win the run prior at Bowraville.

She led all the way on that occasion and kept going right to the line for a pretty soft win in the end.

I’m expecting she’ll have come on nicely over the break and she’s come back into a suitable looking race here, especially with Holten’s 2kg claim which brings her down to 54kg today.

From gate two Ebony Rein might well go to the front again, but could easily be ridden just behind the speed if need be.

Expect her to pick up where she left off last campaign.

Another resuming three-year-old in Tainted Love might well be the big danger.

He won easily on debut at Newcastle 122 days ago finishing two lengths clear and producing a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 73.

He was solid in a recent trial at Gosford last month and drops to 56.5kg with Clenton’s claim.

Jumping from a maiden to a Class 2 is always a tricky assignment but he looks like one who might just be capable of getting the job done here.

He should be running on well late on.

In a rough looking race they look the main two, but it might well pay to have a look at Todd Howlett’s Handel With Care if you happen to be on track.

The five-year-old mare hasn’t raced for 451 days since leaving the Guy Walter stable.

Her last performance on the race track netted a half-length third at Goulburn in Class 1 grade over 1200m, and a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 76.

She’s had a couple of trials to tune up for this and carries just 55.5kg with Aaron Bullock’s claim.

It might just pay to keep her safe.
