Toshinaga To Bring Up The Hat-Trick

3 minute read

A career peak performance last start leaves the Kelly Purdy trained Toshinaga well placed to bring up the hat-trick at Grafton this afternoon.

Having saluted in impressive fashion at Lismore two back the son of Wonderful World would go on to frank that form when storming home from the back to score narrowly here last start.

While not a decisive victory, the fact he was able to make up so much ground off only a reasonable tempo emphasised the high level of his performance.

A performance which does seem him rate well on Timeform weight adjusted figures and hence is expected to make his presence felt.

From the wide draw expect Jason Taylor to restrain Toshinaga to the tail and save him for one last crack at them in the straight.

The step up to 1725m appears more than ideal and while he will be dependent on a solid tempo up front he should still prove very hard to hold out.

MON SOLEIL:

Getting well beaten this prep but in vastly stronger company than this. Won't know himself racing against this opposition and is nicely treated after the 4kgs claim. Watch for a bounce back in form.

CIRCLE THE GLOBE:

Placed here over 1420m two runs back then didn't get into the race when fifth at Gold Coast last time out. Blinkers go on for the first time today so an improved effort is possible.

CRACKIN' CROWN:

Smart gelding who has had a stop-start career. Scored off a 14 week break at Moree, was spelled, then won again after 28 weeks on the sidelines at the same track. Cannot be under estimated.

EKOFANIDEA:

Broke her maiden at Gold Coast two runs back then backed that up with a narrow win at Sunshine Coast over 1400m last start. This is her stiffest test but has claims down in the weights.

THREEBIGRIVERS:

Much better run last start a narrow runner up to Toshinaga over 1625m here. Grabbed right on the line today and meets him on the same terms so worth a look at odds.

ISIS FLYER:

Tired the last little bit when seventh here over 1625m last start. Won here at a mile earlier in the prep but looks a rough chance at best in this grade.

WHIPS OF MONEY:

Has been out of form recently after some good performances earlier on. Not keen.

THRESHER:

Finished the race off nicely when fifth at Tamworth over 1400m last start. Third up today and is looking for this trip now. Rough place chance at good odds.

CARA BLANCA:

Won a much weaker race at Murwillumbah last start over 1530m but looks out of her depth here.

HILLTOP:

Copped a check in the straight but still made up a mountain of ground to finish third here to Tishinaga over 1625m recently. Will get back and need luck from the inside gate.

ST EDITION:

Not racing well this campaign. Hard to have on his last start tenth at this track over 1625m.

MAPUCHE:

Narrowly won over 1900m at Armidale last start in a Class 3 after performing well in moderate company the couple of runs prior. Not up to this.

SAMSILI:

Has been poor in both runs this prep and won't be bothering these.

Good luck and happy punting.
