Northwest Ready To Break Through

3 minute read

A distance rise and class drop has Northwest shaping as the best bet of the day at Nowra on Monday.

The David Vandyke-trained filly drops in grade after a second at Warwick Farm while a rise in distance for the R Oatley Vineyards Maiden Plate (1600m) at Nowra on Monday.

Monday’s R Oatley Vineyards Maiden Plate shapes as the easiest assignment of her short career to date, particularly with the scratching of the Paul Cave-trained Columkille.

Northwest rates well clear of her rivals on weight adjusted figures and to say her opposition is of questionable quality is an understatement.

The daughter of Falkirk has placed in each of her three career outings to date which so far includes a closing third behind subsequent stakes winner Panzer Division and a last start second behind the promising High Above.

Nothing else in the field possesses anything remotely close to this sort of form.

Northwest has drawn favourably and carries no weight with just 54.5kg.

Expect the filly to settle handy from there and simply prove too good.

On 50 day weight adjusted ratings, Call Me Up, Better Believe and Breathing Fire shape as the nearest rivals.

Call Me Up and Better Believe have each placed in their past two outings however it can’t be ignored how the three above mentioned horses remain maidens after a combined 59 starts.
