Mchawi To Work Magic At Hawkesbury

3 minute read

Mchawi can hit the ground running with a first up success in the opening race at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding resumes after a two start preparation which produced mixed results although did yield a first up second at Gosford over 1200m.

He was given time to mature after a disappointing second up run and resumes on Thursday in the Cystic Fibrosis Research Maiden Handicap (1000m).

The Magic Albert gelding appears well suited first up over 1000m and rates well clear on disclosed form, possessing a Timeform rating of 87 for his second at Gosford.

James McDonald rides and from an inside barrier is likely to lead or settle outside of it.

It is shaping as a most suitable first up assignment for the gelding who can hit the ground running.

While safely accounted for, form behind the likes of Almalad and Snippets Land read well amongst this sort of company.

Oakwood Lady is likely to lead and take plenty of catching.

The filly resumed at this course over 1100m last start and was only collared late in her bid to lead throughout.

The Scott Singleton-trained filly will strip fitter for the run and dropping back to 1000m should suit.

Singleton applies the blinkers to the filly for the first time which could spark her that extra bit.

While the filly is admittedly a nine start maiden, she has been knocking on the door for a while now and can claim a maiden win here.

Nancy makes her debut in a winnable assignment and has been readied for it with two trials.

She has finished second in each of the trial heats and must be respected here on those efforts.

Autumn Warrior was okay on resuming at this course and distance a fortnight ago in testing conditions.

She will strip fitter for the outing and can build on the run.

While the selection is heavily based on one outing at Gosford, Mchawi still gets the nod in Thursday’s Cystic Fibrosis Research Maiden Handicap (1000m) at Hawkesbury.
