The Time Is Right

3 minute read

A distinct drop back in grade leaves the Patrick Shaw trained Time Odyssey very well placed to return to the winner's stall in the tenth event at Singapore this evening.

Having contested Group 3 and Group 2 company at his last two outings, the son of Jet Master has continued to raise the bar.

Two starts back he finished midfield behind Kiwi Karma in Singapore 3YO Sprint, before showing good improvement behind Spanish Bay in the Singapore 3YO Classic.

In a race which was clearly run to suit the front-markers, Time Odyssey really caught the eye late, when making up ground along the inside.

With the leader and eventual winner reeling off a last 600m of 33.11 seconds, it further emphasised the challenge faced by Time Odyssey coming from off the speed.

Lining up for just his seventh career start, Time Odyssey remains open to good improvement and gives the impression he will relish the step up to the mile.

In-form jockey Barend Vorster sticks aboard and has placed in two of five attempts aboard the three-year-old.

This season Vorster is striking at 14 per cent with the Shaw stable and is likely to camp on the back off the speed.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Time Odyssey appears very well placed and holds a distinct edge on his rivals.

If able to repeat his last start performance, he sets a lofty standard and should prove very hard to beat.

The Mark Walker trained Bremner creates plenty of interest and shapes as one of the main contenders.

Formerly based in the UK, the son of Manduro returned an encouraging performance in his Singapore debut, before not beaten far behind the talented Chase last start.

Working home solidly over the 1400m journey, he too is expected to improve further stepping up to a mile and rates well using Timeform weight adjusted ratings.

Leading rider Manoel Nunes continues his association with the four-year-old and could look to settle closer to the speed.

Bremner is unbeaten at his sole attempt at this trip and overall Nunes strikes at just shy of 20% with the Walker stable.

On career best form, he remains open to further improvement and is expected to make his presence felt.

The Michael Freedman trained Mighty Warrior concedes weight to both of the above, however he is progressive and must be respected.

In three career starts, he has won twice and was quite impressive last start, when digging in deep to hold off all late challengers.

Mighty Warrior recorded time ahead of the bare form and can improve a further four or five pounds on predictive ratings.

From the wide draw, he is likely to roll forward and settle just off the speed, with Corey Brown sticking aboard.

If able to enjoy a good run in transit, Mighty Warrior is expected to be in this for a long way.

The Laurie Laxon trained Alfonso has steadily improved with each performance this time in and should be right at his peak racing fifth up.

Although unable to fire early on, his latest effort behind Bravo Charlie was solid enough and he remains open to further improvement on best form.

From the awkward draw, he is likely to roll forward, as he did show good improvement when ridden aggressively last start.

Although conceding weight to all of his rivals, Alfonso is capable and must be respected.

Good luck and happy punting.
