Grunderzeit An Economic Upswing For Punters

3 minute read

Promising colt Grunderzeit appears well placed to make a winning return, when set to contest the fifth event at Canterbury this afternoon.

Trained by John O'Shea the son of Street Cry has won two of five career starts and appears ahead of his mark to this point.

Unbeaten in both attempts at Canterbury, Grunderzeit was tried in similar company prior to a break and while finishing sixth, his performance held plenty of merit.

The winner Gold Seventy Seven is a clearly talented and when using sectional analysis, Grunderzeit was entitled to finish second, after going too fast early.

Unseen since January, Grunderzeit has trialled twice in the lead up, with his latest effort at Warwick Farm a pleasing performance, when untested.

Leading rider James McDonald continues his association with the three-year-old, saluting in two of three attempts.

This season McDonald is striking at 20 per cent with the O'Shea stable and is striking at 20 per cent from his last 350 rides.

From the middle draw Grunderzeit appears to get an ideal run in transit, with the Chris Waller trained Pirandello and Gary Portelli trained Tralfaz likely to take up the running.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings Grunderzeit appears very well placed and notably possesses the scope for further improvement.

If able to return up to his best, he should prove very hard to beat.

The Chris Waller trained Dupe 'Em raced in good form last preparation and is a big watch fresh in this affair.

While only saluting from two of nine career starts, he has repeatedly put up form good enough to be competitive in this line up.

His sole trial performance in the lead up was very good and while he is likely to be better over further, he remains under strong notice.

Stablemate Pirandello also must be kept safe, making his return from a 452 day break.

Formerly trained by Darren Smith, the son of Excellent Art boasts some very handy form lines and if anywhere around his best, he is expected to make his presence felt.

Of the rest the Gary Portelli trained Tralfaz has to be included — a distinct model of consistency this preparation, he is also a noted performer at this course and distance.

Good luck and happy punting.
