Golden Tomahawk To Carve Up Rivals

3 minute read

The once highly spruiked Golden Tomahawk can return to the winner's stall this evening when set to contest the seventh event in Singapore.

Formerly trained by Shane Baertschiger, the son of Turffontein returned in good order for his new stable when finishing third behind the progressive Sebas last start.

Now under the care of Michael Freedman, Golden Tomahawk will be out to live up to his very impressive maiden win, when saluting by over five lengths in quick time.

Although unable to salute in four starts since, the form around Mexican Girl, Wimbledon, My Lucky Strike and Sebas is obviously very strong.

Having jumped away well first up, Golden Tomahawk slotted in just off the speed in fourth.

Urged forward rounding the turn for home, Golden Tomahawk took a while to wind up before working home solidly down the centre late.

The winner Sebas has since gone on to win impressively again and clearly no knock on the form moving forward.

Somewhat outpaced over the 1000m, Golden Tomahawk should relish the step up to 1200m and appreciate the lesser tempo.

In-form jockey Corey Brown replaces Craig Newitt and is currently striking at 18 per cent with the Freedman stable.

Drawn a touch awkwardly, Golden Tomahawk is likely to press forward and slot in just off the speed, with The General and Nova Warrior the likely front-runners.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings Golden Tomahawk appears well placed and is open to further improvement on best form.

He has placed in four of five attempts on the polytrack and is expected to be right in the finish.

Debut victor Nova Warrior lived up to his heavy market support, when proving too strong on-speed and shapes as one of the main contenders in this event.

Stepping out for the Mok Zhan Lun stable, Nova Warrior really had to dig in deep after he was pestered in-front.

Under siege on straightening, Nova Warrior appeared in trouble before responding well under Manoel Nunes.

Kicking back along the inside, Nova Warrior regained the lead passing the 200m and fought on hard to hold off the Laurie Laxon trained Katagas.

On Timeform ratings he returned a solid debut winning figure and comparatively was marked just two lengths slower than Class 3 winner Blue Diamond.

The form through the race has also since held up with both Katagas (2nd) and Fantastic Man (5th) performing well at their next outings.

From the wide draw he is likely to press forward and be in this for a long way.

The Patrick Shaw trained The General impressed in his Singapore debut and with further improvement expected, he appears the next in line.

Attempting to lead throughout The General was unable to hold out the Laurie Laxon trained Mexican Gal, but stuck on right to the line after being headed early in the straight.

A very credible debut, he should improve with that race experience under his belt and should look to adopt a forward position from the middle draw.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings his debut figure brings him right into contention and given he is expected to improve further he looms as a major threat.

Of the rest the Laurie Laxon trained Bordeaux remains under strong notice, as while disappointing first up, he is clearly capable of far better.

On best form he rates well using Timeform weight adjusted ratings and has never missed the money racing second up.

Craig Newitt links back aboard and from the gun draw he cannot be taken lightly.

Good luck and happy punting.
