No Tears Expected At Benalla

3 minute read

Baby Don’t Cry can build on an encouraging first up display when contesting the Extons Earthmoving Benchmark 70 Handicap at Benalla.

The Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison-trained mare resumed at Bendigo three weeks ago where she fell just short of victory, running third to Shadowofyoursmile.

It was an encouraging display and furthermore, her effort which returned a Timeform rating of 71 is some ten pounds shy of a master rating achieved when placing at Ballarat in her previous second up outing.

On this basis, Baby Don’t Cry should be open to substantial improvement second up in the Extons Eartmoving Benchmark 70 Handicap (1212m) at Benalla.

The daughter of Any Given Saturday is drawn to receive all of the favours tucked in behind the speed second up and Linda Meech jumps back aboard who enjoys a good association with the mare.

The opening leg of Wednesday’s quaddie profiles as a most suitable event for Baby Don’t Cry who deserves favouritism as she looks to continue her progression through the grades.

Another progressive type is the Craig Dickson-trained Ashdam.

The Hard Spun entire has won two of his four starts so far this campaign, the latest when making all at Bendigo over 1300m.

He should be somewhere around optimum fitness at this point of his campaign and can keep on winning.

The entire will work across from an outside draw and be prominent throughout.

Bay Of Biscay is an honest customer who on resuming won an Open Handicap over 1175m at Albury.

The son of Hemingway will strip fitter and is another who will likely be up in the firing line early.

Ski Angel was perhaps ambitiously placed when safely accounted for last start at Warwick Farm.

The daughter of Estambul however was a convincing Class 3 winner at Cootamundra on resuming.

She was a class above on resuming and outclassed second up.

Her third up assignment shapes as a happy medium for the six-year-old.

The scratchings of Songspur and Spritely Girl thin the race out in terms of depth and it would come as a surprise if the winner came from outside of these four chances.

Of the above mentioned quartet, Baby Don’t Cry boasts the strongest claims.
