Risky Rockefeller Worth Another Chance

3 minute read

Despite failing to live up to market expectations at his last two starts the Steven Burridge trained Risky Rockefeller is worth another chance when due to line up at Singapore this evening.

Set to contest the seventh event, Risky Rockefeller won very well fresh before not beaten far at his last two outings.

Tried beyond 1200m for the first time the son of Muqbil hit the line well to finish a close third behind handy type These Streets.

On that occasion he was quite wayward at the top of the straight when looking to shift out inside the 400m.

Once straightened up by Brown, Risky Rockefeller worked to the line well and wasn't marked far off his career peak.

The step up to the mile will no doubt suit and given he is only lightly raced he remains open to further improvement moving forward.

Formerly based in Victoria [Old Name: Brandjulfrank], Risky Rockefeller joined Burridge's care in July last year, placing in three of his four starts since.

Now a rising six-year-old, Risky Rockefeller appears to be heading in the right direction and although drawn wide, he still appears well placed.

Gold Peregrine, Ideal Guide and War Time look likely to control the tempo in the relatively small field.

The much in-form Corey Brown sticks aboard and is likely to settle Risky Rockefeller midfield from the wide draw.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings very little separates the leading contenders, though there is a slight lean towards the former.

Risky Rockefeller's latest performance suggested he would be right at his peak for this and hence was in line to record a new career peak — if able to do so he should prove very hard to beat.

The David Kok trained Well Done continued his good run of form behind Blue Danube last start and looms as a major threat back in trip.

Successful in returning a new career peak last start, Well Done now drops back to the mile, a trip he won at two starts back.

In 10 attempts at this track he has placed in six and has notably won three of four attempts over this trip.

Leading rider Manoel Nunes sticks aboard having placed in all three attempts including his victory two starts back.

From the inside draw he looks to get an ideal run in transit and should be fresh enough (19 days between runs) to sprint well over the mile.

Much like Risky Rockefeller, he appears to be a nice horse heading in the right direction and looms as a major threat.

The Stephen Gray trained Newlands won well first up and remains open to good improvement racing second up.

A winner of three of his eight starts, Newlands is another galloper who possesses good upside and while lining up against tougher company he appears more than capable of taking that next step.

In-form jockey Vlad Duric sticks aboard and is currently striking at 28 per cent with the Stephen Gray stable.

He is already a winner over this trip and has to be kept safe.

Of the rest the Stephen Burridge trained Gold Peregrine appears the next in line following a return to form behind Lim's Rally last start.

While only possessing the three wins to his name from 14 starts he is more than capable on best form and has to be kept safe from the favourable draw.

Good luck and happy punting.
