Augustano To Continue Strong Form At Kranji

3 minute read

Augustano has been racing in career best form of late and looks hard to beat when he lines up against the older horses in the Class 3 over 1100m at Kranji on Sunday.

The Lee Freedman-trained runner returned in very good order when narrowly beaten by Golden Sword before going on to win a Class 3 over 1200m last start.

The lightly raced galloper has shown plenty of ability in his short career and based on his last start win rates well again today.

From the good draw expect Glen Boss to push forward and lead once again on Augustano and such a strong fit horse he will take plenty of getting past.

Running to a new career peak Timeform rating of 83 last start, the son of Hard Spun still appears to have plenty of improvement to come and this looks a very nice race for him where he ticks all the boxes.

Gran Torino shapes up as the main danger on the back of a dominant win in a Class 3 over the 1000m trip on the Polytrack.

Remains on the same surface today and with only seven starts to his name is another that has plenty of improvement to come.

Certainly needs to make further improvement to challenge Augustano and he goes up in both distance and weight however there was a lot to like about his last start win over some promising types.

From the wide draw looks another that will push forward to settle on the speed and if he gets some even luck in the run then expect him to be right in the mix at the finish.

Baffert scored a nice win in a Class 3 two starts back, running on well from midfield before a disappointing effort over the 1100m on the polytrack last time out.

Has since run well in a barrier trial over 1000m when runner up and is capable of bouncing back and competing with the top chances.

Has only managed the two wins from 12 starts and was very disappointing last start but if he can run up to his win two starts back in the Class 4 Premier and even show a bit of improvement he is more than capable of a strong showing.

Himalaya Dragon rounds out the main chances on the back of some recent consistent form, winning two starts back before going on to finish runner up to Gran Torino last time out.

Has a good record over the 1100m trip and expect him to be doing his best work late once again.

Good luck!
