Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 12.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Coffs Harbour, Port Lincoln, Stony Creek, Warrnambool, Nowra, Sunshine Coast Poly Track and Pinjarra.
COFFS HARBOUR: RACE 6 @ 4:45 PM
VOLCANIC LOVE (14) was backed as though unbeatable last start and duly landed the prize over 1110m at Lismore. That run followed an eight-week let-up so he should tighten up further. Drops 4kgs today and won't mind the extra trip so another big run is on the cards. TREAD SOFTLY (12) returned from an eleven-month spell with an encouraging third last time out over 1110m at Lismore. The second-up form is far from impressive which is the niggle, but she is at her best over six furlongs so give her the benefit of the doubt. LORDSTER (9) made it four top-three finishes in a row when a closing third over 1350m at Doomben five weeks ago. Freshened up and looks nicely placed to play a big role. SHIHAB (10) disappointed at Port Macquarie last time but is worth another chance. SELECTIONS: Keen on Volcanic Love.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Coffs Harbour Computer Card.
PORT LINCOLN: RACE 4 @ 2:38 PM
FOX DUNNETT (1) finished sixth two runs back at this track then improved last time out to score by a nose as favourite over 1350m at this track. Suitably placed so anticipating another big run. JENNI ESPRIT (5) returned from a spell a week ago when she was in contention on the turn before fading late at Naracoorte. Stepping up a level this time but with added fitness she is good enough to take this out. KINGSON (2) finished sixth last time out over 1000m at this track a week-and-a-half ago. Tackles a longer journey this time. Leading hope. SUTADAMU (4) showed good speed here last time until tiring late. Can sneak into the finish.
SELECTIONS: Fox Dunnett to win again.
STONY CREEK: RACE 7 @ 5:13 PM
TRAK CHILLER (9) bounced straight back winning here this grade by 6.8L. Has to push forward from a wide barrier but looks well-placed to deliver again. IRRESISTIBLE SIR (3) missed a whisker at Yarra Valley and then Horsham and keeps improving. Bowditch goes abroad and he's a genuine chance. BEAUNIFIED (5) just missed here in a CL1 and is busting to win. She will run along from an inside barrier and get every chance. THE WIZARD KING (6) didn't have any luck last time but the form prior reads well. He also deserves consideration.
SELECTIONS: Sticking with Trak Chiller.
WARRNAMBOOL: RACE 8 @ 5:25 PM
ACTIVE DUTY (4) has placed in his past couple, third at Hamilton over 1200m two back before a sharp jump up to this route when just finding one narrowly better. He should be fitter for that run and gets an ideal chance to break through. STORM WATCH (3) resumes. He won narrowly on debut here before going to town and dropping right out in a small field. No surprise to see him return in better form at a suitable trip. REDEVANCE (6) ran well fresh at Wangaratta over 1400m, finding the line strongly from back in the field to grab fourth. Up in trip looks ideal, he'll be charging late. WEST CLIFF (7) has been largely racing well of late and is an each way chance.
SELECTIONS: Active Duty to win.
NOWRA: RACE 7 @ 5:35 PM
LA BELLA BONDI (10) charged to the line in a close third at Kembla Grange second-up and returns to country grade. Only has to handle the conditions to take beating. SWEET PATRIOT (6) was placed on a heavy back in July and fitter for two trials leading into this. Keep very safe. CASTLE OF CARDS (9) hasn't shown a whole lot in the trials of late but from top stable and she's drawn well. Watch betting. CAPRICIOUS BELLE (16) is also among the chances.
SELECTIONS: La Bella Bondi to win.
SUNSHINE COAST POLY: RACE 8 @ 5:45 PM
Another one that's been decimated by scratchings, only leaving us with just the three runners. CRESSBROOK (6) is clearly the one to beat. Has hit a rich vein of form stringing two wins together on the bounce and winning rider McMurray stays on board. Again gets the benefit of his 2kg claim. Ticks plenty of boxes. ITALIAN DANCER (18) was better last start on the turd when closing off solidly into the frame. Cherry-ripe now and is the main threat. MIO SORRENTO (8) was also better last start and deserves some respect.
SELECTIONS: Cressbrook to bring up the hat-trick.
PINJARRA SCARPSIDE: RACE 7 @ 7:20 PM
ICEBERGS (1) is a leader and brings a near miss from Ascot over this trip. He led in that and raced favourite. Finds easier today and should be winning. I'M CRAFTY (2) is a threat. Had no luck off a wide barrier last time but the 1L defeat at Ascot prior reads well. Has the inside barrier and CJP stays aboard. I'M NIPOTE (3) improved again beaten 1.2L over this distance at Bunbury and is capable of going one better. HE'S ARCHIE (4) is also going well enough to consider.
SELECTIONS: Backing Icebergs.
