Ascot opening day didn't disappoint

3 minute read

It started off with the thrilling tussle between Canford Cliffs and Goldikova, with the colt getting the better of the filly in the end.

UK!

It was a great result for the Hannons, who had seen Goldikova's backside in eight previous encounters,

but Goldikova was not disgraced. Cityscape finished third just ahead of Rio de la Plata whom we were

hoping we make the placings - was a decent run anyhow.

The King's Stand was a beauty - Overdose went off like he'd been fired from a cannon and Sweet

Sanette was also quickly away. Prohibit was just stalking Overdose and when it looked like that horse

was slowing down he went round him and charged to the front with Star Witness, who looked as if he

didn't get away too well, charging home but not fast enough. However we had the pick 4 so we were

very very happy. Star Witness will be better at the 1200m, whereas the others probably don't get that

trip. A great result for Hong Kong for Sweet Sanette.

And then the St Jim's - did Frankel go too soon? Is he really just an ordinary very good horse? More

questions than answers but the result stands - Frankel defeats Zoffany with Excelebration (by Exceed

and Excel) third. GP Boss didn't fire - he was up there for a while but maybe the travel was too much

as he faded at about 1300m mark.

Power won the Coventry from Roman Soldier and after that we fell asleep!
