Craven Stakes day at Newmarket

3 minute read

Following shocks a-plenty in the Nell Gwyn, will there be an upset in the G3 Craven Stakes on day 2 of the Newmarket meeting.

USA!

Most Improved, who ran third in the Dewhurst, resumes in the 1600m 3yo feature. He's obviously a very nice horse but this is his first start for the year and we are probably going to direct the hard-earned towards Easter Sun, John Gosden's runner who won at Kempton on resuming and will have William Buick riding - the 10/1 looks value. Trumpet Major is 6/1 and Born to Surprise 7/1.

The G3 Earl of Sefton for the 4y+ over 1800m has Twice Over on 5/4. While Twice Over is a class act, this is his first outing for the year as well and that makes the price look skinny as he may well need this run. Tazahum is on 6/1, last year's winner Ransom Note on 8/1 together with Prince Siegfried, but we like another 10/1 shot here - Penitent - who has won his last two outings one of them this year.

Yesterday major upsets in the Nell Gwynn when 28/1 shot Esentepe won by a neck from Nayarra 20/1 with Lily's Angel 1/2 length back at 9/1, Starscape a short head away in fourth and Lady Gorgeous a short head again in fifth in a thrilling finish.
