Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 7.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Grafton, Mudgee, Warrnambool, Townsville, Kalgoorlie and Hobart.
GRAFTON: RACE 1 @ 11:15 AM
AQUAFIRE (1) two career runs have been full of merit and expected to go one better today after sitting on the speed for a narrow second over 1030m at this track on June 8. Maps to get the right run and will take holding out. TAKEOVER LAD (5) top debut performance when boxing on strongly to finish third over 1000m at Tamworth on June 21. Strips much fitter now and Baker rides again with the 3kg claim. Leading prospect. HELLUVA TEEN (7) looked good on debut two starts back when a narrow second at the Gold Coast. Up in grade and never comfortable in the heavy conditions when ninth over 900m at Newcastle on June 22. Will find this easier and can return to form. BETTY CEE (6) returns for second prep without a trial after tiring late when fifth over 900m at Newcastle on February 10. In top stable and should have strengthened over the break.

MUDGEE: RACE 5 @ 3:15 PM
AMICUS CURIAE (4) ran well fresh atr Wyong before a closing second at Tamworth just over a week ago. That's good form for this race and with even luck he's the one to beat. FLETCHLO (10) shrugged off a couple of flops when runner-up at Narromine two weeks ago. Best form has him in the mix. FROM THE BUSH (1) had support when battled on for third at Hawkesbury in his best effort this time in. Chance to back that up. SIZZLE MINIZZLE (3) and ISLAND PRESS (2) have claims.
SELECTIONS: Amicus Curiae to win.
WARRNAMBOOL: RACE 3 @ 1:20 PM
ALAKAHAN (2) is coming off a solid effort when third at this track and distance, backed into a $2 favourite but no match for a couple of talented jumpers who go around in strong races later. Looks nicely placed to take this out. PURE DEAL (3) was beaten narrowly when last seen at Sale in a hurdle over 3296m and had been good chasing the in-form Affluential prior at Sandown Lakeside. Suited here. LINCOLN KING (1) was sound on the flat when last seen and had been good in a strong hurdle at Sandown Lakeside prior. Big chance. TREASURED CROWN (5) next best.
SELECTIONS: Alakahan to win.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 3 @ 12:48 PM
MOOLOOLABA (4) has grown a leg since joining the new stable with four wins and a second from five outings all over this track and trip. Racing with a lot of confidence now and is the one they all have to run down. DAWN STRIKE (7) got the job done last time out and will have taken some confidence from that victory. In the mix. SUCH A WHIT (5) has placed over this course and distance and is drawn to get across easily from gate two. Can play a role in the finish. EROE (6) rounds out the selections.
SELECTIONS: Mooloolaba to win.
KALGOORLIE: RACE 4 @ 2:30 PM
DEBONNAIRE (1) stepped out to 1400mlast start and bolted in, following a gutsy win over this course and distance the start prior. He's building a handy record here and his last start suggests there's more to come. On the way up and can continue his winning run. PRINCESS CHUNK (5) closed off strongly first-up to finish 1.7L away after sitting at the rear of the field. A bigger field should suit her racing pattern with a stronger tempo in store this time out. The booking of Fiore is a positive sign and she can get back onto the winners list. SYMPHONY IN RED (9) is better than what she showed last start on the 7-day back up. Now a fortnight between runs, she's likely to get back in the run and can be swooping at the leaders late in the race. HONEST LEGEND (4) has been a long way back in his past couple and if he jumps on terms this time, a better run is anticipated.
SELECTIONS: Debonnaire can win again.
HOBART: RACE 8 @ 3:35 PM
D'ORO STAR (8) resumes and has trialled well. He is proven second-up and can control the race from an inside barrier. He promising and will be naturally improved. TURK WARRIOR (2) just missed first up on the synthetic. The well-performed galloper flies second-up and Newitt rides for the first time. Hasn't won for a while but is a live chance. KING ISLAND (7) needed the first-up outing but is proven second-up and is up to this at best. Maps for a soft run and will get every chance. ALPINE WOLF (3) resumed with a near miss in the TURK WARRIOR race and has more to give over the longer sprint. In the mix.
SELECTIONS: Backing D'Oro Star.
