Best From The West – June 23

3 minute read

The HG Bolton Sprint and Belmont Guineas are the highlights this week at Belmont.

We think there might be some value in the big races.

In the Guineas, the mile can sort a few out. One who does like it is Mizlecki.

She has been close up twice at the journey of late including making a long run two weeks back.

You only have to go back to her Raconteur and Sheila Gwynne stakes wins to know this holds few fears from a class view point.

Fred Kersley knows how to aim a horse at the right race and a good track is all she needs to let go properly.

Again thinking we will get decent odds about the daughter of Lope De Vega.

In the next Rebel King makes his Winter resumption in this Listed HG Bolton Sprint.

His last two preparations he has won first up. They included the Scenic Blast against some horses who’ve gone on to better things in Battle Hero and Dainty Tess.

He’s trialled well once again and just needs a track firm enough to run a cracker.

He’s often ignored in the market so we might get better on the day.

With a two good finishes over shorter trips leading into this, State Prosecutor appreciated the 1600m and overwhelmed them in the straight for a big win, his third (maiden stakes) from 14 starts. He was slowest away and was tailed off by three lengths when they settled. Rider William Pike caught the field at the 1200m, ten lengths from the pace but Pike seemed unhurried and they remained last around the bend and into the last corner. He pulled wide into the centre of the track once into the straight, balanced then charged for home, maintaining a strong gallop, striding up to the leaders at the 100m then coming away inside the 50m to win handsomely. From back of midfield Roganella got off the fence just before they straightened, found a split at the 300m, led at the 100m but the winner flew by. Necklet was unlucky, tracking Roganella to the 150m but never had a clear run until it was all over for a tough third from Debellatio who lunged into fourth (rails) right on the line.
