Apprentice jockey Baylee Northdurft looks set for a big day at Gold Coast on Saturday with a number of strong winning chances.
The most significant of those is Mr Marbellouz, who gives the apprentice a shot at a stakes win in the Listed TAB Goldmarket over 1200m.
Mr Marbellouz is an exciting sprinter who relished the step up to this distance when returning to the winner’s stall with a dominant 3.3L demolition at Doomben last start.
He relished the step up to 1200m on that occasion and took his strike rate at the distance to 50 per cent.
While drawn a little wider he led throughout last start so has the gate speed to work across into the ideal position.
He returned a rating there that will stack up strongly in this field and as a lightly-raced sprinter with upside he looks capable of lifting to another level.
Nothdurft also has a strong winning chance earlier in the program in consistent sprinter Cool Drafts.
The Ben Currie-trained mare looks well placed in the Lilydale Chicken Benchmark 70 over 1200m.
Cool Drafts is racing in fine form this campaign, kicking off with an easy win at Warwick.
She followed that with a second at Toowoomba then really caught the eye when charging home to miss by a nose over 1100m at Doomben a fortnight ago.
That performance suggested she is looking for the extra 100m now and she already has a solid record at this distance.
Nothdurft’s 3kg claim sees Cool Drafts come in well at the weights and she has the ratings to beat a field like this.
