After a lovely Karrakatta Plate result, it is Derby Day this Saturday.
We will have a play in the Derby hoping for another value runner.
The interesting move of the day is that William Pike is riding Altani in the Raconteur Stakes when the stable he usually rides for has one in the race.
The Universal Ruler filly went to Albany to break the maiden, leading all the way and doing it in some style.
Pike jumps on and she is down on the limit however she is meeting some in form three year olds this weekend. It was an open maiden first up so that is a good sign.
It’s the engagement of the jockey that makes you believe the ability is there for Altani.
In the WATC Derby, happy to give the fillies another chance to win but not from the Oaks winner.
Mackenzie Brooke ran on stoutly at the end of the mile and a half and should do so again.
By Blackfriars so breeding won’t stop her doing that, she has kept improving with more ground.
Those in front of her had more luck two weeks ago and she just needs a smother for the first mile.
Hoping the favourite has not much fortune from the barrier and we can definitely back her each way at around double figures.
BEST FROM THE WEST
BET OF THE DAY: Race 5 #7 Altani @ $5.00
EACH WAY PLAY: Race 8 #12 Mackenzie Brooke @ $12.00
