Well it was a slightly frustrating Saturday for us last weekend.
Spot The Rock didn’t get out in time in the first and despite flashing home was still beaten a nose.
Escoffier was beaten as predicted while Teronado was also narrowly beaten, just missing with a late run out wide.
Keep an eye on both horses at their next start, they’ll both be tough to beat.
The banker today comes in race three where Volkhere is looking to turn the tables on Mishani Warrior, who won us plenty of cash a fortnight ago.
On that occasion Mishani Warrior finished a nose in front of Volkhere at this track and trip, and now the latter gets his chance to turn the tables with a one kilogram weight swing.
In any event, Volkhere looks the one most likely to improve given he’s second-up as opposed to Mishani Warrior who’s stepping out for his eighth run this campaign.
He’s a versatile galloper who looks to be in for a big campaign, and should get the ball rolling with a win this afternoon.
On to race six and I really like the look of Regular today to bounce back from a frustrating third placing in that Mishani Warrior race from two weeks ago.
He started from his good gate but ended up three wide somehow and just peaked on his run late after taking the lead 200m from home.
The jockey gets a chance to redeem herself today, and dropping back to 1200m should suit perfectly.
There’s a handful of last-start winners to beat home here so marrying up the form is the main challenge in this one.
Tom’s Luck was too good here over 1110m two weeks ago and looked to have a bit more in the tank but there’s a question mark over the strength of that race – he only beat home Shazzle Pazzle and Royal Shout.
The Storeman won well last start but is up in grade while Bribie grabbed a deserved win here last week but hasn’t won back-to-back races in almost two years.
He’ll need a better ride, and if he gets one Regular can prove too good at the $4.
Our lay of the day is back in race two where Rocket To Glory has come up the $3.20 favourite, resuming for Tony Gollan.
It’s a tricky race to piece together and I reckon his stablemate Theft, who is also resuming, looks more appealing.
He finished 2.2L off in the Weetwood last campaign but was without his regular rider Chris Munce.
Now Munce is back in action and he’s straight back aboard Theft – unsurprisingly given he’s won six times in 10 starts on the horse.
Buckmoore held off the promising Spot The Rock last weekend and should run another big race while Jungle Heat won nicely resuming here four weeks back and is also well and truly in the mix.
Rocket To Glory looks primed for this after beating home Magic Millions Guineas winner Saluter in a recent trial.
Cahill aboard is also a positive, but the $3.20 looks far too short in a very open race.
