Best From The West

3 minute read

Exciting sprinting prospect Magnifisio resumes at Ascot on Saturday and shapes as the best bet of the day following her impressive form last time in.

A victor of all three visits to the races last preparation the daughter of Magnus continued to raise the bar improving 10 pounds from her first up victory when defeating the handy Elite Belle.

Sent to the paddock following a solid victory over Cherie Amour back in July the now four-year-old is expected to have made further improvement off a break given she has continued to progress with each career start and that doesn't appear to be halted anytime soon.

Her trial behind The Rising was solid enough in the lead up and she is proven to fly fresh having placed from two of her three prior attempts.

Chris Parnham sticks on Saturday and was aboard Magnifisio in all three of her victories last time in and does see her well placed after his two kilogram claim.

While lining up against a couple of handy types on Saturday the fact they are betting upwards of 2-1 about her does seem very generous as we have her rated closer to an even money shot and she shapes as a great betting prospect.

We thought Shining Knight had every possible last start and can't fathom how he is so short on Saturday as we have rated closer to a 5-1 chance and have Baleen In Me the clear second pick.

Progressive filly Arcadia Rose proved successful in living up to her potential last start and does appear set to go on with it on Saturday.

Bred to be a handy stayer of the future she is expected to only progress further up to seven furlongs against what we view as a pretty modest bunch.

While drawn a touch awkwardly she should roll forward and settle just off the speed and prove too strong in the run home.

At the moment you can shop better than even money and given we have her closer to a $1.75 chance and does appear a great banker for all your multiples and quaddies.

The Trevor Andrews trained Halusa has been installed the early favourite on Saturday and we struggle to see how.

While his trial form has been impressive he does line up against a few promising types on Saturday including Hudson River, impressive last start winner You Will Be Queen and Play With Fire.

Although he is expected to have improved considerably from his debut back in July the idea of taken $3.20 about his chances seems very hard to swallow given the little he has displayed on raceday.
